Our coaching team is made up of experienced USPTA and PTR certified professionals who create a positive, supportive, fun, and growth-minded environment for every child. As an official USTA Coaching Education Center, we ensure the highest standards of instruction, and all RacFit coaches maintain full SafePlay certification. Youth programming is guided by nationally recognized junior coach Michael MacVay, whose proven leadership and passion set the foundation for exceptional development.

Junior Tennis Programming

RacFit’s Junior Tennis pathway is designed to help every young athlete grow—from their very first rally to elite competitive play. We offer a complete progression of programs, starting with Red, Orange, and Green Ball levels that build fundamentals, confidence, and a love for the game. As players advance, our Pre-High Performance and High Performance programs provide the structure, coaching, and intensity needed for tournament play, physical development, and long-term success.

RED BALL (AGES 5-6)

Tuesdays & Thursday 3:45–4:30pm, Saturday 9:15–10:00a

Red Ball [Ages 5 & 6] is an ideal starting point for our youngest athletes where they will learn for following skills necessary for their tennis future:

  • Cooperation and exchange with a partner to simulate a fundamental rally
  • Understanding of ball bounce and the physics of the tennis environment
  • Practicing counting in games to build towards tennis scorekeeping
  • Training fundamental tennis movements and reactions

Open to beginner players (pre-rally)
Players exit this class and join the 7 thru 9 year old class when they display greater levels of coordination, ball tracking, cooperative partner work, and maturity.

Advancement Pathways: Red Ball [Ages 5 & 6] —-> Red Ball [Ages 7 through 9]

RED BALL (AGES 7-9)

Tuesdays & Thursday 4:30–5:30pm, Saturday 10–11:00am

Open to beginner players (pre-rally) and players who have entered the rally-ready stage.

Players will training using a heavy load of partner-to-partner exercises as we build towards participation in seasonal competitive events like the Red Ball City Championships and In-House Tournament and Pizza Party

  • Maintain a peer-to-peer rally on a 36′ court with a red training ball
  • Show fundamental tennis reactions to both the dominant side (forehand) and non-dominant side (backhand)
  • Produce an overhand serve with control to the correct service box
  • Understand the basic structures of tennis based on rally, point, and game
  • Have the ability to manage a tennis match and keep score based on point and game and knowing which side to begin play

Advancement Pathways = Red Ball [Ages 7 through 9] —–> Orange Ball

ORANGE BALL (AGES 7-11)

Monday’s and Wednesdays 5–6:30pm, Saturdays 11–12:30pm

Orange Ball tennis is designed for players ages 7–11 who are ready for longer rallies, bigger courts, and developing real match skills with age-appropriate equipment.

Entry Skills

  • Maintain a peer-to-peer rally with red ball on 36′ court
  • Coordinate an overhand service motion to correct service box on 36′ court with red training ball
  • Understand structure of tennis as in what constitutes a point and to control the ball to open space

Exit Skills

  • Generate spin in both topspin and backspin directions
  • Navigate back, mid, and front court and modify size of swing to match reaction time
  • Create a continental grip spin serve
  • Understand doubles as well as singles

Advancement Pathways = Orange Ball [Ages 7 through 11] —–> Green Ball

GREEN BALL (AGES 8-12)

Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30–7pm, Saturdays 11–12:30pm

Green Ball tennis is ideal for players ages 8–12 who are building full-court skills, refining technique, and preparing for competitive match play.

Entry Skills

  • Maintain a peer-to-peer rally with orange ball on 60′ court
  • Coordinate an overhand service motion to correct service box on 60′ court with orange training ball using continental grip and creating spin
  • Create both topspin and slice with groundstrokes and effectively change grips as needed
  • Navigate backcourt, midcourt, and frontcourt and alter swing sizes to match less reaction time and space
  • Understand doubles formations and assignments

Exit Skills

  • Set up two-shot patterns to attempt to win a point using height, width, and depth changes.
  • Look to finish points at the net via open court volley or overhead

Advancement Pathway = Green Ball —–> Middle School Training / Pre-High Performance

PRE-HIGH PERFORMANCE (AGES VARY)

Mondays, 5:30 – 7pm

The Pre-High Performance tennis program is a progressive training pathway designed to prepare motivated junior players for the demands of high-performance competition. The focus is on building strong technical fundamentals, disciplined movement, tactical awareness, and competitive habits through structured drilling, live-ball patterns, point play, and age-appropriate athletic development.

Players are placed by coach evaluation based on skill level, maturity, and peer dynamics, with an emphasis on coachability and long-term development. Participation in local and regional match play is encouraged as players begin establishing a consistent competitive pathway toward High Performance training.

Advancement Pathway = Pre-High Performance —–> High Performance

HIGH PERFORMANCE (AGES VARY)

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays – 5:30 – 7:30 PM

The high-performance tennis program is our structured developmental system designed to maximize a player’s technical skill, tactical awareness, physical conditioning, and mental resilience. It integrates on-court drilling, points-based play, strength and conditioning, periodized fitness, recovery work, sports psychology, and competition planning. The aim is to prepare athletes to compete at the highest levels for their age and pathway.

Players in this training group will be approved by the Director of High Performance (Coach Jake Rother – [email protected]) and be group based both on skill level and social peer groups.

Players will be expected to maintain an active competitive calendar.

RacFit offers private and semi-private lessons for players of all ages, featuring personalized coaching, video analysis, and customized training plans. It’s the fastest way to accelerate skill development, sharpen technique, and elevate on-court strategy.
